Propulsion System Functional Safety Engineer

Description

  • The Propulsion System Safety Engineer will be involved with the development of the future electric, hybrid and conventional propulsion systems. The Engineer is responsible for performing functional safety analyses, functional safety requirements definition, decomposition, deployment and allocation, functional safety development at system level and executing related tasks for vehicle propulsion systems. The engineer will interface with other vehicle teams and suppliers. The candidate must have the desire to learn new processes and technologies. In addition, the engineer will work in an AGILE environment and should be able to support the AGILE process
  • Summary of Position Responsibilities include but not limited to:
    • Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment
    • Safety Plan and DIA
    • Impact analysis of requirement change or new function introduction on existing systems
    • Functional safety concept definition, ASIL Decomposition activities, functional safety requirements deployment and allocation
    • Verification and confirmation reviews
    • Technical safety requirements definition, allocation and deployment at system level
    • Hardware metrics target specification and allocation
    • Safety case and assessment
    • Management and release of documentation according to safety standards
    • Analysis of supplier technical proposal (SEooC, technical safety requirements at hardware and software level, hardware metric computation)
    • Verification of supplier safety case and assessment
    • Support design teams during the implementation of the safety requirements
    • Support validation and verification team in DVP development

Requirements

  • 100% remote. Put on the resume where the candidate lives in Ontario.
    • A Master degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic/Computer Engineering, Applied Physics or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
    • Minimum 2-3 years of engineering experience in automotive or avionic control systems
    • Minimum 2 years within the area of functional safety
    • Experience in AGILE method
    • Experience in development activities with suppliers
    • Proven competency in Functional Safety
    • Proven competency in Systems Engineering (requirements, architectures, communications…) and preventive reliability methods (DFMEA, FTA, …)
    • At least a basic knowledge of hardware electronics and reliability
    • At least a basic knowledge of software architecture and development process
    • At least a basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics, internal combustion engines, transmissions, electrical motors and drivers, high voltage batteries and circuits, power electronic devices
    • Good problem solving skills
    • Good synthesis and reporting skills
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good planning and organizational skills
    • Fluent English (B2)
    • Trained and certified in ISO26262
    • 6-12 months experience as a scrum master
    • Knowledge of requirement management and safety analysis tools (ALM, Medini, DNG)
